Office 2019 is the latest version of Microsoft’s standalone Office productivity suite. It’s what the firm now calls the “perpetual” version of Office, or what old-timers like myself might. Microsoft today is releasing another Office Insider Preview build for Mac users in the Slow ring, bringing the version number to 15.27 (161003).
Microsoft will, at some point, discontinue sales of Office perpetual licenses, analysts have agreed. (Microsoft has made no secret that it prefers subscriptions – Office 365 in this case – for the recurring revenue they generate.) Dumping single-copy one-time purchases would be the logical place to start reducing the perpetual option. Spataro did not say so, but Office 2019 will come in versions for both Windows and macOS.
Nothing to stop you.

Are you an early adopter? I don’t know about you, but I don’t rush into things. I would never buy a brand new house. Someone else can work through the “snagging list” and iron out the problems. The same is true with software.
Yes, that’s how much I like it. I’ve been trying to see what I can criticize it for, but there’s not much. Anyone Can Get It That’s right, even if you don’t currently own Office, you can try it out for free for a limited time. Microsoft makes each new build of the preview expire after 90 days, so you won’t be able to use it for long once it’s officially released.

No love for Windows 7 (which retires in January 2020, or a year-and-change after Office 2019's debut) or Windows 8.1 (January 2023, four years and more). Those two older OSes will have to be satisfied with Office 2016 (which, again, doesn't fall off support until October 2025). Spataro did not offer an explanation for the support limitation. Previously, like when Microsoft said that Office 2016 could not be used to connect to the company's own cloud services after Oct. 13, 2020, it's rationalized the decision by claiming that tying new (Office 2019 in this case) technologies to old (Windows 7 or Windows 8.1) resulted in substandard security and unimpressive features. From Microsoft's perspective, the same reasoning could be applied to this ruling.

Microsoft today is releasing another Office Insider Preview build for Mac users in the Slow ring, bringing the version number to 15.27 (161003). The company hasn't really been announcing any Office builds from, other than the first one, which. In fact, in many cases, the firm is still offering them to the Fast and Slow rings at the same time. These new builds tend to roll out monthly - the - and then to the Production channel (non-Insiders) a couple of weeks later, so if you're not an Insider, you'll see it soon enough. Here's what's new in version 15.27: • More functions: In Excel, use CONCAT or TEXTJOIN to shorten your text formulas, or try the forecasting functions to help you see the future. (Feature requires an Office 365 subscription.) • Trim audio and video files: In PowerPoint, trim unwanted content from the beginning or the end of your audio or video files.
Who are not running Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft release updated version office 2019 for them. This will include the advanced version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and One Note. Customers under Office 365 services are getting updates every month. For the past three years, new features of the Office 2019 have been brought to Office 365. Microsoft Office 2019 has been designed keeping in mind the general customers.
And quite surprisingly I’ve not had any issues with stability either. The apps are responsive, although some actions (such as switching between tabs in the ribbon) seem to lag for just a split second before reacting. These are things you’d expect Microsoft to fix before the final release. There are plenty of new templates available in the various applications that will take care of most of your needs.
Standard consumer versions of Office 365 are on the “Monthly” update channel that receives new features and other updates each month. However, if you installed a version of Office through your organization’s Office 365 ProPlus subscription, you may be on the “Semi-annual” channel instead. This channel only gets updates with new features once every six months. You’ll still receive security updates immediately—only new Microsoft Office features are postponed. You can switch to the monthly channel if you’re on the semi-annual channel and want to receive more frequent feature updates.

If you don’t need those features, and you don’t need the few apps missing from macOS (and we suspect that applies to over 90% of our readers), you’re probably fine going with the Mac version of Office 2016 or Office 365. And it sure beats jumping through hoops to get the Windows version running on your Mac!
If you're looking for the basic Office program like Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and don't need OneDrive cloud storage, Office 2016 is perfectly fine for one person. You'll only have to pay once, meaning you don't have to worry about that yearly subscription fee hitting your credit card every year. Of course, the lack of updates is a little annoying, but for most users, you'll probably not even notice or miss the extra features Office 365 provides anyways. Office 2016 Home & Student is going to be all the majority of people will need; however, if you do want Outlook your can always get the version as well.
No longer do you have to go to the Help menu and wait for Office’s Help content to load. A query box appears within the application’s ribbon; all you have to do is start typing what you need help with. Tell Me uses natural language search to try to match help immediately, much like the way Google’s search engine displays results as soon as you start typing.
Clicking on that Excel file in OneNote opens a full, editable version of the file in Excel. On the Mac version, you can only open a read-only copy of embedded files. • Versioning: The Windows version maintains previous versions of tabs that have changed. The Mac version does not. • More Searchable: The Windows version lets you search handwritten text, as well as audio and video recordings. This feature is not available in the Mac version.
Very little detail on what will be in Office 2019. Broadly it will include a selection of features that have been or will be available to Office 365 customers. Office: Inking features–like pressure sensitivity, tilt effects, and ink replay–will allow you to work more naturally. Excel: New formulas and charts. PowerPoint: Visual animation features, Morph and Zoom Nothing specific about Word or Outlook but there’s sure to be new features added to those programs.
Among some of the new features in the suite are coauthoring for Word, PowerPoint and OneNote; real-time typing in Word; new integrated Power BI publishing functionality in Excel; and updated search and navigational capabilities in Outlook. As is the case with Windows 10, Microsoft is planning to fill out some of the partially baked Office 2016 features in the suite with regular updates in the coming months. Microsoft is still working on. The promised new sync clients for Windows and Mac are due later this year. Built-in coauthoring for the other Office 2016 apps beyond Word is also still in the works.
And improved inking features across the apps in Windows— like the roaming pencil case, pressure sensitivity, and tilt effects— allow you to naturally create documents. • Zoom capabilities for ordering of slides within presentations • Morph transition feature • Ability to insert and manage Icons, SVG, and 3D models • Improved roaming pencil case. Outlook (Manage email more efficiently) Microsoft has updated contact cards, support @ mentions within Outlook and introduce focused inbox feature that moves less important emails out of the way— so you can get straight to taking care of business. • Updated contact cards • Office 365 Groups 1 • @mentions • Focused inbox • Travel and delivery summary cards OneNote also got the biggest update. Check out that link for a detailed list of updates, but the big stuff includes bringing some long overdue features to the macOS version, like collaborative real-time editing, automatic saving of documents stored in the cloud, and Google Calendar and Contacts support in Outlook (finally). That said, there are still features (and entire apps) that you might miss out on if you’re working with the Mac version. If you’re switching between Windows and Mac (maybe using one at the office and one at home), or maybe thinking of moving from Windows to Mac, it’s worth comparing the available features in the two versions. The big question is do you need to or just so that you can run the Windows version of Office, or can you get by with just buying the Mac version (or, better, using one of the installations that comes with your )? What Products Are Missing from the Microsoft Office Mac Suite? RELATED: Microsoft sells Office for Windows in various editions. Almost all editions come with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

I have the same lamentations that you do. Sometimes bugs persist for a long time (decades, even). Microsoft put a lot of resources into bug fixing on the Mac. The code base of Office for Mac is now the same as the code base as Office for Windows. The last time that was true was in Office 4.2.1.
Broadly it will include a selection of features that have been or will be available to Office 365 customers. Office: Inking features–like pressure sensitivity, tilt effects, and ink replay–will allow you to work more naturally. Excel: New formulas and charts.
The main difference, though, between Tell Me and the standard Help feature is that Tell Me actually points you to the command that will help you accomplish what you want to do, instead of providing a set of steps. So, if you want to insert a footnote in Word, it shows you the actual command and, when you click it, takes you to where you need to go to insert a footnote. If you still want to view the Help text, though, Tell Me also provides a link to that content. Forget Lync; Skype instead Microsoft is finally beginning to leverage its purchase of Skype by incorporating it into Office 2016. Microsoft is renaming Lync, its instant messaging tool, to Skype for Business. But don’t worry — Skype for Business will have the same features as Lync, and it’ll still work pretty much the same way, except for a few differences. The first thing you’ll notice is that the user interface will be more “Skype-like”; that is, the color scheme, buttons, and icons will look like the regular Skype application.
Access and Visio don’t even get mentioned. With such a long lead-time it’s likely that even Microsoft isn’t 100% sure what they’ll include in Office 2019. Server versions With the desktop programs will be server versions of Exchange, SharePoint, and Skype for Business which, like Office 2019, will include some of the features available in the Microsoft hosted server systems.
There’s also a Styles pane that should allow for quicker modifications of styles (which means making changes to the whole document gets quicker and easier). There’s also a new collaboration feature that reminds me of Google Drive, but it only displays its changes when participants click on the Save button, rather than displaying real-time changes. Excel Excel provides all of the functions found in Excel 2013 for Windows, bringing that Mac version well and truly up to speed.
