How Much Vram Is Required For Lightroom 3 To Run On A Mac
The easiest way to check which version of Photoshop is running is to view the details on the splash screen that is displayed when the program starts. Next to the version number you will see x64 for 64-bit mode or x32 for 32-bit mode. Photoshop CS5 Splash Screen Recommendations If you regularly work with large files, process multilayered Photoshop documents, and/or enhance multiple highresolution raw files, then running the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS5 will increase your productivity.
• Two types of Spot - Spot healing now includes the ability to brush arbitrary shapes (e.g. Telephone lines) along with circular spots (dust) • Radial Filter - this new toll appears in the Histogram Toolbar between the Graduated Filter and the Adjustment Brush. Radial Filter allows users to apply existing local adjustment attributes to a circular mask with a feathered falloff. Users can now create off-centre vignettes, among other effects. • Upright - this is a technology that straightens pictures automatically. Common use cases include fixing horizons (to avoid 'tilted pictures') and straightening buildings (to avoid the 'keystone' effect). • LAB Colour Readout - the Develop module histogram now supports LAB colour values • Aspect Correction - a slider was added to the Lens Correction Manual Tab.

The specifications below are for if you wish to run all products within the suite – see the individual listings above for each application’s minimum requirements. Photoshop CS6 and Illustrator CS6 run 64-bit native on Mac OS X, Microsoft ® Windows Vista ®, and Windows ® 7 platforms. Mac Lightroom 5 Lightroom 4; Processor. First and foremost, with the help of all the people who tested and provided feedback during the Beta run, over 400 bugs were found and fixed. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5. Speed and Performance.
Obviously, you need a 64-bit operating system for this, or each application (e.g. Photoshop) will be limited only to 2GB of its own RAM. • Hard disk access I'd highly recommend an SSD for your main drive, and HDD for long term storage (plus backup methods, which could be external drives). Your SSD should also act as the 'scratch' drive for Photoshop and as the drive used for your swap file (neither of which should be heavily utilised if you have 8GB+ of RAM). The increase you'll get from an SSD as a main drive instead of an HDD will far outweight pretty much any other upgrade you can do.
Select the option that best matches your workload. Reduce patterns and brush tips Each custom pattern and brush tip you load increases the overall RAM required to run Photoshop CS5, increasing the scratch disk size in the process.
If lightroom has the full sized (1-1) preview it will not be 'soft' since it knows enough to use the largest preview it has (the 1-1) to fill the screen. You can see this in action (and check to see if that's what's going on) but zooming in at 1-1 in the Library module - like if you were going in to check focus.
I would think that this has to be rooted in either how the 64 bit version of Lightroom is optimized, or in the way that the PC version is encoded in general. Importing and exporting are the two biggest things that I have to wait for in Lightroom, and it's a shame that a mid tier PC can even come close to a top of the line Mac Pro.
I've tried all the 'work arounds' short of using the beta of CS6. Most do not work or are unacceptability cumbersome. Who wants to use a Beta of anything for production work? Especially after the latest upgrade to LR4. LR is suppose to stream line work flow not complicate it. This version is a DOG. Check out the Photoshop family forums at photoshop.com to get an Idea of all the issues.
It did have some trouble with profiles and faces partially hidden by hats and other clothing in my testing. Once faces are tagged, you can always get to them by tapping the same face icon in Library mode, but I wish you could also easily create smart albums based on peoples' names or even use a People mode as you can use Map mode. Face detection might seem like a consumer feature, but pros who shoot events with lots of faces could certainly make good use of it. Raw Profiles Most Lightroom users probably know that working with raw camera files offers the most leeway when you're correcting images.
I use a SSD M.2 to PCIe x4 adapter as a boot drive and 22TB NAS RAID 5 for storage. The only SATA drives are a 2TB RAID 1 locally in the PC for scratch processing. Any PC sold today with a 2.67GHz CPU or greater and 8GB RAM or greater will run LR5.7 or even LR6 for that matter, adequately. Hello, Thank you for this information. I am ordering a iMac. I currently have a LR catalog of about 40k images from high megapixel cameras. I import and store these images externally on a 7200 RPM hard drive.
You are asking two very different questions, because Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop of course do not have the same system requirements or use the same system resources. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 Graphics Card: Lightroom does not currently utilize the GPU for performance improvements. It is outlined in the Lightroom documentation. Lightroom requires a video card that can run the monitor at its native resolution. Built-in, default cards that ship with most desktop or laptop systems typically suffice for Lightroom. Processor: From: The minimum system requirements to run Lightroom are just that: the minimum you need for Lightroom to operate. Additional RAM and a faster processor, in particular, can yield significant performance benefits.
Thought there was something wrong with my machine (we normally use the i7 for video editing and the i5 for stills). LR4 is running so slowly on the i5 that I thought there was something wrong with the machine and then tried it on the i7 as well - same problem - now I've changed back to LR3. As a so-called professional photographer I don't have the time to sit and wait and wait and wait for simple commands to render. This is disappointing Adobe. @bigdaddave, I'm writing software for living, you don't tell customers, who abhors a poorly designed UI -- learn to use it properly.
7)You have “Automatically write changes into XMP” turned on (most Lightroom users will not need this specialized feature turned on). Imagine if every time you moved a slider, Lightroom had to write that change into a separate text file. Imagine how that would slow Lightroom down? Well, if you have this turned on, you’re living that speed hit all day every day. Turn it off by going to the Lightroom menu (PC: Edit), go Catalog Settings; click the Metadata tab, and turn off the checkbox beside “Automatically write changes into XMP” (as shown above). That’s my top seven – hope that helps speed up your daily Lightroom experience.
You can use a touch screen to pinch-zoom to any level you like—something I was thrilled to see in testing on my Acer T232HL touch-screen display. There's even a touch interface with large controls, which you can enable by tapping a finger icon. Lightroom's Library mode offers unmatched organizational abilities, including the ability to group pictures into Quick Collections of thumbnails you select, and Smart Collections of photos that meet rating or other criteria.
I'm NOT(!!) saying that Aperture is bad and Lightroom is good. I'm just saying that you really need to acknowledge that Aperture, in comparison with everything else, is slow slow slow.
If you choose an external USB drive to save your camera raw cache settings, you’re severely hindering Lightroom’s performance. External USB drives themselves are typically very slow and the USB connection is even slower. So always use an internal drive or a zippy eSATA drive if you have one, but your best option is to use a drive that’s not your operating system drive so Lightroom can have a dedicated hard drive for the Camera Raw Cache. If you have no choice, then use your operating system drive. To change the Camera Raw Cache location select ‘Choose,’ and select a drive and folder.
After an hour on hold with customer support AND on hold with their live chat, I finally got all that I needed: the link to the hidden LR6 download. SUCH a hassle!!!
Lens Corrections Lightroom offers profile-based lens correction for geometry, vignetting, and chromatic aberration. Lightroom's automatic chromatic abberation correction is now equal to that in the excellent. Lightroom also does an excellent job of removing image noise. And if you really want to supercharge your editing, Lightroom's plug-in capability allows you to add powerful third-party tools like VSCO Film Essentials and ON1 Effects. An Adobe Exchange panel applet streamlines the process of plug-in installation.
Are you using a 3rd party mouse? If so is the driver up to date on your Mac? Which Video card? How much VRAM? Is the GPU a supported GPU in LR?
The situations where you have to wait longer for some processing to finish are usually going to be times where you are CPU-bound, and spending more money on the CPU will improve these times. However, you should not discount the following: • Memory (RAM) Image processing demands increasing amounts of memory, especially when working on many layers (say, in Photoshop) or batch processing/previewing many images at once (say, in Lightroom). For now, 8GB is a comfortable amount of RAM for pretty heavy image processing. If you have less, consider upgrading.
I stopped by the Corel booth at one of the events last week. After seeing, I figured I had seen the tip of the spear for photo-editing software for the week. Boy, was I wrong.
Hi Victoria, I’m paying $9.99 a month for adobe lightroom CC6. I have installed adobe lightroom CC6 on my laptop with windows 10. I have a desktop HP for about 6 years and it is saying it is low on disk space and must remove some programs. BUT, I want to buy a new computer desktop so I can install adobe lightroom CC6, which I do not have installed on my desktop because I do not have enough memory or RAM. I need your expert advise, should I go for a MAC OS or continue with WINDOWS OS? Are the colors are better with a MAC? What system requirements do I need to get on a MAC OS?
It's impossible to finely adjust a slider as you can't see the effect for all of these seconds so you give up and move on to the next slider. This deprecates the resultant image so much compared with what you should be able to achieve. LR3 worked very well and quickly. I have done all suggested things to improve the processing health of my computers to no avail. If Adobe does not release a solution very soon I will be moving to Apple software as I cannot afford the 10 fold increase in image editing time.
Grid Overlay in Loupe View One very welcome addition to the Library module is the ability to overlay a grid in loupe view (see above screen grab). The grid is user configurable using a slider located on the toolbar just below the content area. To activate Grid Overlay just click on the toolbar drop down menu and pick the relevant menu item. Modify the size of the gridlines by holding the command/control key and click 'Size' while dragging the mouse to the left (to decrease) or right (to increase). This also works for the adjusting the opacity ( Cmd/Ctrl + Option/Alt + 0 keyboard shortcut) Smart Collections Smart Collections are an important workflow tool, but have seen little love for a few versions now. However, with Lightroom 5, Adobe have enhanced smart collections with some new criteria: • Image size (in megapixels) • Bit Depth • Number of color channels • Colour Profile • Smart Preview status * (Filter-> Smart Preview Status) • PNG * (Filter -> File Type) * also available as filters Smart Previews Smart previews is an all new feature in Lightroom designed to help users with large numbers of files that they may wish to edit whilst away from their desktop computer.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Canon Freak from Adobe wants to sell the CC more. First of all, I want to say that the 3 stars have nothing to do with B&H. B&H is a reference in north America when it comes to photography. They are super professional!
For example if you are a much heavier user of Lightroom, I would choose processor over GPU. If you are much heavier user of Photoshop, it is a harder decision, and really gets into the specific processor model and GPU model(which I won't go into here, and would be better suited for superuser.com). If it is a desktop model, I personally would go with the CPU over GPU since it is likely you can upgrade the GPU anyways. To answer your secondary question, if you are using an older version of Photoshop that does not have heavy requirements on the GPU, you still need a graphics card to handle things like Windows and the actual display on your monitor, it just won't be used by Photoshop to offload the heavy tasks it does with many new features.

For a high end machine focused primarily on editing, a six-core CPU is also a good choice, although they’re a little more expensive and often have a slightly slower clock speed. Memory (RAM) The operating system, open programs and their data are held in RAM. The more data you’re working with, the more RAM you need.
By generating smaller, more portable stand-in files of your full-size imagery, you can apply adjustments and update metadata and then automatically apply these edits to the larger originals at a later time. Develop Presets Develop settings can be saved as presets for instantly applying your favorite looks to photos with a single click. In addition to creating your own, dozens of presets are pre-installed and thousands more are available from third parties. Other Features • Location-based photo organization• Import libraries from other software applications• Extended video editing support• Image watermarking• Cross-platform 64-bit support• Multiple monitor support• Offline photo management• Batch application of development settings• Adobe Photoshop integration• Manage and refine several images at once• DNG and raw file conversion• Single or group metadata stamping• File renaming• Advanced search and sort• Simple or customized keywording• IPTC/EXIF/XMP metadata editing• Import and export presets• Metadata stamp on import. Advanced Editing Capabilities Advanced Healing Brush The Advanced Healing Brush can be used to quickly fix image defects, such as dust or spots, as well as cleanly remove any unwanted objects within the photo. Updated control allows you to quickly remove oddly-shaped items, such as threads or splotches, without affecting the main subjects of an image.
Radial Gradient The Radial Gradient tool enables you to create off-center vignette effects or multiple vignetted areas within a single image for easily drawing attention to specific portions of the frame. Non-Destructive Environment Lightroom is based within a non-destructive editing environment that lets you experiment and adjust imagery without the fear of accidentally altering your original files. This makes it easier to reverse any unwanted edits or save multiple versions of the same image. Advanced Black and White Conversion When converting color images to grayscale, eight color channels can be used to gain complete control over tonal representation, as well as contrast and brightness.
I only found this thread trying to solve my problem because the above message did almost nothing to help after the damage was done. I don’t have time to get a new MBPro to finish this projectis there any workaround or way I can roll back the upgrades? I have an iMac (2007), with 3Gb ram, and 128mb of VRAM (OS: Mountain Lion). I signed up for the Creative cloud explicitly for Photoshop’s 3D features, which by the way worked fine until the last CC update.
The hardest part came right when I went to submit my first batch of photos. You have to scan an ID that proves your age. A few of my upload attempts for this were rejected. But who knows?
Assuming that it is rooted in the software and not a 32bit vs 64bit thing, I don't understand why Adobe would have the Mac version of LR be so much more inefficient than the PC version. If your 4 cores were being used at%50, it only suggests that it used only 1/2 of your processors. Windows Task Manager (a system utility) shows the load placed on each separate processor in addition to the overall load. You can see at a glance how the load is distributed, which is central to how the application and operating system make use of available resources. A multi-core processor does make a difference in the performance of Lightroom, which renders images about 4x as fast in my octoprocessor Xeon workstation as in my dual-processor P4. I use the same external USB2 drives with both computers. I run 32-bit XP for maximum compatibility with Adobe applications.
Soft proofing and printing now accept CMYK printer profiles. Previously you could select only RGB-based profiles for the soft-proofing feature and in the Print module. Now you can also select CMYK output profiles.
I won’t share your email address or send a load of spam.
Simply type 'top' and then press enter where the cursor is blinking. And it should give you output like the following: if you can then open lightroom. And once it slows down. Wait a couple minutes and then take a picture/screenshot of the above terminal and post it here.
Now i learn from this blog, that you focus on graphic cards with lots of dedicated memory, and i just invested 1.000 dollars on a brand new Surface pro 4 (8gb memory) in the faith that your program was so well written i could use on this mobile solution?!?! You stated that the RAW software would expand on what cameras yoou support, and offcourse i would expect it to support both my Sony A7II (it seems it does) but my main camera – the Sony A6300 isnt even on the list? Its supported allready by all the others?? Have you left it out (rendering my pre-payment useless) or do you simply not bother to update the list?
